I've implemented over 50 tiles from Seiken Densetsu 3. I haven't done away with all of the old tiles either. So we're looking at about 60-70 usable tiles (some of the old tiles don't mix with the ripped tiles so they don't count :\). I'm still in the process of getting more tiles.

I'm HOPING to make at least 50 maps before the next alpha release. I'm also hoping to get some new features in as well. So we're probably not expecting a new alpha until I get the following done:

1) 50 Maps
2) Items
3) *Possibility* - Finish updating the character tiles to the new sprites Bryan colored.
4) *Possibility* - Races/classes? Doubtful though.
5) There WILL be secrets hidden in the 50 maps. Be on the lookout for those. And no...I will not share any with you :\. Feel free to share any secrets you find in the forums. Alternatively, you can be greedy and keep it all to yourself o.O.
6) New editor. Editor might be made available to ANYONE now. The reason is that the server now checks map files to make sure they've been unaltered. In prior alphas, there was no such check. Therefore, I had to limit the editor to staff only to prevent bugs from user-made maps.

I want to run a test everytime we get a new major feature in. That helps to keep things stable.

Also, I've decided that I will very likely be doing player-owned housing. I will NOT be making a banking system. You will store your money in your house or risk losing it to a thief. The houses are pre-made, but you will be allowed to decorate your house. All houses will come with locks. Houses will require a monthly rental fee. You can prepay the fee. Expenses will be extracted from the house's bank.

Houses will most likely not be in the next alpha. Just telling you guys what's planned for the future.

Sweet, it's cool that you are doing player-owned houses. Thiefs can do more than just get a backstab bonus in this game now, so that's great.

OK guys. So far, we have nearly 40 alpha maps completed. I'm hoping to have 100 for the next alpha release. Then I need to implement the items engine.

The alpha after that might include AI so we can get some quests going.

Well, it certainly will be easier to get more maps for the next Alpha, since the map editor will be released and we'll all be screwing around with it.

I can't wait though. So much progress it sounds like!



PS: I got accepted to college. I start my Bachelor's Degree in Game Design July. So I'll be more helpful once I start learning this stuff. >.>

Nice to hear you've been accepted to college. What do you mean by "game design?" Game design can refer to the planning of a game, programming, etc.

From the course description and all, it is all aspects (programming, concept, etc.).

Argh, haven't had much time lately. Too many exams -.-. I get tested every week :\. Still trying to reach my 100 maps goal. I just can't give you guys an estimate of when everything should be ready since I've been so busy. I really feel like I'm disappointing you guys with all the delays. I miss having "too much" free time sad.gif .

Yes, life. Then Sanctuary. And don't feel like we're disappointed. Nobody can expect a one man army who has a life to release something of this caliber in this amount of time, unless they are an ######. Take all the time you need. This is your project and there are no deadlines or expectations.

The whole reason why third-party stuff like this tends to not suceed is because people try to do too much too fast. Then they get burned out, they don't have time to do stuff that's really important, and they are forced to drop the project so that they can catch up with the rest of their life.

Part of the key to your sucess is to take it slow and easy. No one is expecting a release until its good and ready.
